Residential Gas Leak Detectors The Most-Needed Preventive Equipment
Time and again, it has been rightly said that ‘Prevention is better than cure’. And the same is true when it comes to safeguarding your homes against fire accidents. Recently, six members of a family at Panipat in Haryana lost their lives due to a house fire caused by a cooking gas cylinder leakage. As per the data of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), one in five fire accidents are caused due to residential gas leak every year in the country. Thus, it is imperative that we take measures to avoid occurrence of such accidents. While being vigilant about all appliances and gas system at our home is the primary way, installing gas leak detectors can prove to be one of the best ways to protect our home and loved ones from disastrous fire accidents.
So how does a gas leak detector help? Any basic residential gas leak detector gives an alert (the detector sends an audible buzzer sound) whenever the gas leaks or the temperature rises above a stipulated level. This helps prevent fire accidents as the family members can immediately take preventive measures before the gas leak results in a fire hazard.
While this is the basic functioning, the advancement in technology has helped manufacturers develop various updated models of such residential gas leak detectors. And Pune-based Vighnaharta Technologies Pvt. Ltd. has been the front-runner in making state-of-the-art detectors available for the masses. The firm has a variety of residential gas leak detector models which are of two voltage types 230 v AC and 12/24 v DC and further bifurcated by usability or requirement. They are HLB, HLRB, HLRBV in this H stands for Household, L- Leak, R - relay, B - buzzer and V- valve .
“Our gas leak detectors are nationally and internationally certified. These certifications include IS 6873-7, IEC 61000-4-2, IS 147000, IEC 61000-4-20, IEC 61000-4-6, IEC IS 9000, CE and EN 50194” informs Nitin Joshi, managing director, Vighnaharta Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
Further about installation of these products, he says, “The model to be used and installation location depends on which type of gas connection the customer has. In case of an LPG cylinder, the detectors are installed under the kitchen platform and near to cylinder as LPG is heavier and settles down on the floor. On the other hand, for those who have PNG, the detectors are fit closer to the ceiling as PNG is a lighter gas and moves upward once leaked.
By installing advanced models, one can also get alerts on their mobile phones. This way the accidents can be prevented even if you are not at home as you can alert someone in the building about the leak and accordingly measures can be taken.”
Adding to it he also mentions that the installation of these detectors is quite easy as trained personnel position it efficiently; the usability of the same is also advanced and user-friendly.
Thus, in this way residential gas leak detectors can help in averting huge damage to life and property.
