Navigating the Flames: A Journey from Passion to Purpose in Fire Safety Engineering

1. Can you describe your academic and professional background? What path led you to pursue this field?

GJ: As a child, my fascination with understanding and repairing broken toys ignited my passion for engineering—a field teeming with diverse opportunities. My academic journey commenced at Don Bosco Institute of Technology, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. The interdisciplinary nature of mechanical engineering captivated me, providing insights into programming, electronics, design, and more.

During my bachelor’s, practical exposure during site visits with my father kindled my interest in fire safety. Recognizing its profound societal impact, I pursued specialized knowledge by obtaining a Master’s in Fire Safety Engineering from the University of Ulster in the UK. Ulster’s comprehensive curriculum delved into fire dynamics, safety psychology, and more, fundamentally shaping my perspective on fire safety.

Post-graduation, I sought real-world application of my expertise in the UK, honing my skills before joining my family business. This trajectory underscores my unwavering commitment to quality and the belief that dedicated work can significantly enhance fire safety awareness and practices worldwide.

2. Given your knowledge of national and international industry requirements, what would you say is the biggest change to hit the industry?

GJ: During my tenure in the UK, electric vehicles (EVs) dominated discussions. I actively participated in seminars and research presentations focused on EVs, revealing substantial investments in EV research. However, critical questions surrounding EV fire safety remain unanswered. As EV adoption accelerates globally and infrastructure expands, these unresolved issues pose significant risks. In India, we are still in the nascent stages of the EV timeline compared to the Western world. Yet, our ambitious goals aim to match or even surpass their progress. However, I am deeply concerned by this. While existing research provides valuable insights, substantial gaps persist. Pursuing ambitious EV targets without robust fire safety regulations would be shortsighted. Our focus must be on establishing a solid foundation to support the future growth of EVs.

3. What are some of the things that executives should be doing to reinforce a culture of safety as you are into PPE, Signage’s, etc.?

GJ: In the realm of fire safety, empowering employees with the right education is paramount. It's not merely about enforcing rules; it's about fostering a genuine understanding of safety principles. When individuals comprehend the "why" behind safety measures, they become active participants rather than reluctant rule followers. Educating them on the potential consequences of unsafe practices, the impact on their well-being, and the broader community reinforces the importance of adhering to safety protocols. This approach transcends blind compliance and cultivates a safety-conscious culture—one where employees willingly prioritize safety because they recognize its significance. As organizations, we must invest in comprehensive fire safety training, equipping our workforce with knowledge that empowers them to make informed decisions and contribute to a safer environment.

4. What will be Vintex Fire Protection for the Year 2024 in terms of product launch & revenue target?

GJ: While I can’t reveal all the specifics, I’m excited to share our overarching vision. At our core, we’re committed to making a meaningful impact and fostering innovation. Our roadmap includes strategic initiatives—some still under wraps—that will shape our future. Revenue targets are essential, but they’re not our sole focus. We believe that purpose-driven growth, coupled with transformative products and services, will naturally propel us forward. So, stay tuned; there’s much more to come. Additionally, we’re exploring emerging markets and strategic partnerships to expand our reach. Our commitment to sustainability and ethical practices will remain at the forefront. In summary, it’s about quality over quantity, and we’re poised for an exciting journey ahead.

5. How do you plan to boost your global presence in coming days?

GJ:  Our approach has always been purpose-driven rather than merely chasing global expansion. Rather than spreading thin, we prioritize meaningful connections with the right audience. Our unwavering commitment centers on delivering exceptional work and maintaining the highest quality standards. Equally important is our mission to raise awareness about fire safety—a cause that transcends borders.

Confident in our core values, we believe that by adhering to them, we will naturally attract like-minded individuals and organically extend our global influence. Our operations span the Middle East and Southeast Asia, where we've established a strong presence. Additionally, our collaborations with European OEMs position us well within the industry.

Looking ahead, we're eager to participate in international conferences and seminars. These platforms will allow us to broaden our reach, share our message, and engage with a diverse audience. Our vision extends beyond growth; it's about making a lasting impact on fire safety practices worldwide.

6. Suggest us the Improvements/changes incorporated on the Fire and Safety Protection and Rescue system in every organization. As safety is everyone’s priority?

GJ: Fire safety, though universally presumed as a priority, often remains underappreciated. The misconception that past incidents guarantee future safety overlooks the dynamic changes in industries over recent years. This oversight undermines the critical importance of fire safety measures.

At Vintex, we bridge this gap through comprehensive training programs that educate individuals across all organizational levels. Our curriculum delves into fundamental fire safety principles, covering everything from the inception and spread of fire to preventive strategies, extinguishing techniques, and safe evacuation procedures. Participants emerge from our programs with heightened awareness and a renewed commitment to prioritizing fire safety—a mission we hold dear.
